Why do a community Bible Study?

Glad you asked! Here is a working document that captures the essence of what we are trying to do....

Goals
•    For Christian men to have a presence in their community
•    An opportunity for men to build friendships with other men from different churches
•    To dig deeper into the Word in an informal setting. It should be OK for men to really hash out and even debate some doctrines and develop a passion for God.
•    Accountability and prayer support
•    Help men become better heads in their families and churches through teaching and accountability

How the goals will be met
•    Christian men will have a presence in their community by holding a bi-weekly, Tuesday evening Bible Study at Cool Beans coffee shop on Station Avenue in Haddon Heights. This Bible Study will launch as an informal fellowship of men from several churches. We will trust the Lord to provide guidance and we can add more formalities as needed. The long-term goal to have this Bible Study run and sponsored by a local church.
•    We expect that men will build upon friendships that already exist, and by inviting others new friendships will be formed.
•    We will study books of the Bible verse-by-verse. We are serious about the need to study the word in this fashion. The Bible Study will be informal in the sense that we are not a church, and we do not have elders/pastors. There will be leaders who will teach, but the success of this study will be rooted in each participant’s contribution. This includes, but is not limited to: discussion, prayer requests, questions, testimonies and opportunities to lead a study.
•    There are times where men are more inclined to ask for prayer and accountability in an informal setting among new acquaintances. We want to capitalize on this by helping each other sense the freedom to share and ask for help.
•    By having this study bi-weekly, we hope to accomplish much by not pulling men away from their families and churches too frequently. Many Bible Studies and men’s groups fail to meet their full potential because they pull men away from other important responsibilities too frequently, or they are scheduled during a time when men are already serving. By meeting bi-weekly and making it a Tuesday, we hope to minimize conflicts and the burden on our schedules.

What we want to avoid
•    We do not want this to be a replacement for what our local churches already offer, but to be a supplement to men’s Spiritual walk. That is why we are using the term “informal”. God ordained the local church, and we are lucky to have many choices.
•    This does not replace the authority and accountability that should come from the leadership and church body that you belong to. The only authority we believe we have is to hold you accountable to meet your full potential and function biblically in your local church.
•    Please do not share the prayer requests or anything else that we share with each other outside of our times together... Unless the person sharing that information give the green light to do so.
